Success Stories: Walleyes

I would like to tell you a little about myself. I have been going to Pipestone since 1986. The first time Pinecrest was open in 1990 I stayed and only twice since have I missed. Once in 1995 I started instead at the Watson Bay outpost also owned by Happy Landing Lodge and again this year because of I took the family to Alaska. I have have two 10 lb plus walleye on the wall and have released several 30 and 29 inch fish that just did not make 10 lb my minimum for the wall. One of the biggest problems with Pipestone is that it is vary hard to catch fish 18 inches or smaller on. Most of the fish are in the 25 to 28 inch range. I do have a lot of pictures of 28 and 29 inch fish being let go. I even have caught some of the big muskies in the lake. One of which is over 52 inches and have personally seen fish big enough to scare you. In 1986 Babe and crew were filming on the lake. Latter that night myself a friend of mine Keith, Jim Hayes, and Babe went out to look for walleye, and musky. We saw a musky longer than the 52 inch wide boat I was in. Lake trout are abundant in the lake and can easily be caught jigging or trolling with deep divers and some weight. Small mouth are truly the most abundant species in the lake but I hunt for the big walleye. It should also be mentioned that portage able lakes like Straw and Sucan have high numbers of smaller walleye in the 14 to 22 inch range. Just to let you know I intend to book Pinecrest at least for one week a year in June and try again in the fall. As a matter of fact I just got off the phone with Client and Rich who are going in to Pinecrest October 13th next week for a couple of days but with work and bow hunting I will not be able to go. Also if you want some pictures of nice fish let me know and if the cabin ever comes up for sale let me know so I can buy it.
